The Old Course and the Trent Jones Cashen Course are two outstandingly difficult and distinctive world-class links golf courses at Ballybunion, which is situated on a lovely stretch of sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in County Kerry. Whatever you decide, the infinity of nature defines every hole, every danger, and every shot.

Dobereiner was merely expressing the opinions of the locals who, despite all of their survival challenges since the club was established back in 1893, had some inkling that the Ballybunion links were a hidden gem just waiting for the outside world to find it.

There were hints, even if the course's popularity did not go abroad until the late 1960s. The first occurred in 1936 when the Irish Amateur Close Championship course was being built and the renowned English architect Tom Simpson was chosen to design it.
